Academy March 2020

February 29, 2020

Coming Up…

We love spring at Seeds! PLEASE be sure to send your student in outside play clothes, jacket, and shoes. As the weather warms please remember skirts and dresses need shorts or legging under them, and closed toe shoes with a back (no croc styles) are required on the playground for safety! We need parent volunteers for our walking field trip on the 11th, WSU Excursion on the 24th, and American Red Cross visit on the 25th.

The night sky is just marvelous! There are stars, the moon, and much more to discover. Do you know why the seasons occur? Or how day and night make the tides? We are going to find out, stay tuned!

Social Studies

This month we’ll travel to the beautiful continent of South America. We’ll experience the sights, sounds, and tastes of Chile, Peru, and Brazil and of course no trip to South America would be complete without a visit to the Amazon Rainforest!

Our poor playground is a VERY important part of our facility. Unfortunately, it has had a rough winter and is need of some repair! So, we will be limiting its use for the next several weeks. Academy students will be using the preschool play ground and walking to Rotary Park for recess. We have made adjustments to the schedule to have 3 teachers for Recess or PE on the days we walk to Rotary Park, these days are listed on the calendar. We will not be asking for parent volunteers for these days but, as always, if you would like to join us you are welcome to do so.

Student Led Conferences

Below is the conference form, one is also being sent home in your student’s folder. We ask that you mark only the times that you absolutely cannot attend so that we can best accommodate everyone’s busy schedule! Please be sure that your forms are returned by March 9th! These are Student Led conferences, please plan to BRING your student! Thank you! We look forward to meeting with you and your student!

American Red Cross

This month for our community service project we are going to be learning about an organization that supports people in our community and beyond. We will be collecting coins for the local chapter of the American Red Cross. On March 25th we will take our donation to the local Red Cross office where we will learn home fire safety and more about what the Red Cross does. Students are welcome to bring loose change anytime – we will have jar set up in the gathering room.

WSU Outdoor Education

We are excited to announce our partnership with the Washington State University Extension program. The Academy funds from the 2019 Art Gala are making possible a 4-month long science, outdoors, and social skills program that will end with an exciting Outdoor Education excursion! Our facilitators through WSU, both with Washington state patrol background clearance, extensive wilderness safety, first aide, and guide certifications, and education facilitator certifications among other relevant trainings, will lead students through a variety of fun skill building activities both at Seeds and off campus over the next 4 months. Our first event is Tuesday, March 10th at Seeds. Then on Tuesday, March 24th we will go on a full day excursion to the 4H low ropes course just outside Leavenworth. We will need several parent volunteers for this excursion. We will leave school at 9:15 am. Students should wear closed toe athletic shoes and clothing that is appropriate for the weather, to be outside and active in all day. They will also need a water bottle and lunch; normal lunch boxes are fine. We will have a guided experience on the low ropes course and return to school by 3 pm. We are very excited about this great opportunity for the students and extremely grateful for the generous support of the 2019 Art Gala that made this program possible!

Spring Break

Spring Break is March 30th – April 3rd! We will see you back at school April 6th!

Art Gala

Plans are well under way for the 2020 Art Gala! How are you going to be a part? We need volunteers for set up, take down, and basket creation. If you are not able to be at the event, we still need your help! There are SO many pieces that do not require attendance! We would love to help you find a way to participate! The success of this event depends on ALL our parents! We depend on this event to bring special activities and tools to your student’s education experience! From our WSU Outdoor Education, Pacific Science Center trip, and other big field trips to balance cushions and science tools that are used every day in class; it is all thanks to the generous Art Gala support of parents like you!
